VIEW 2013

Once again, the main Italian conference dedicated to digital technology exceeds expectations.

From “foodimals” to giant robots, from games to comics, from business growth to research promotion, from the lighting of photorealistic characters to the rigging of “animated” protagonists, up to storytelling in all its forms, VIEW 2013 is almost at doors with a great story to tell ..

VIEW conference, the main Italian conference on digital media, is scheduled for 15 to 18 October, immediately after VIEWFest, scheduled for 11 to 13 October.

At VIEWFest there will be the Italian preview of the animated film “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” in the presence of directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn. Director Dan Scanlon will present the much loved Disney / Pixar blockbuster, “Monsters University”. Javier Jimenez, co-founder of Mirada Studios, will be present for the “Tribute to Mirada”, with some of the best music videos and commercials of our time. Finally, award-winning independent director Peter Chanthanakone will present three of his animated shorts.

Other screenings scheduled during the digital film festival: the Italian premiere of the short “The Smurfs: The Legend of Smurfy Hollow”, the short animated film “Blue Umbrella” by Pixar, the live-action film “Gravity”, the documentary “Google and the World Brain ”, the best of SIGGRAPH 2013 and the Italian Mix 2013.

Three pre-View Conference workshops are scheduled for October 14: an all-day workshop on lighting, appearance and animation for photorealistic digital actors with a master of digital graphics, Paul Debevec, associate director of graphic research at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies. PDI / DreamWorks character supervisor and technical director Lucia Modesto will provide rigging principles for the animators, while Daniele Angelozzi will offer modeling for 3D printing. All three will present additional seminars and interviews during View.

No matter what digital format it is in, the story is always at the center and VIEW 2013 offers a look into the narrative with well-known professionals. Javier Jimenez co-founded the Mirada studio with directors Guillermo del Toro and Mathew Cullen and director of photography Guillermo Navarro, and has since collaborated with leading creative minds in relation to film, television, advertising and literature. David Misch, author of “Funny: The Book / Everything You Wanted to Know About Comedy” is an ironic folk singer, stand-up comedian and screenwriter. Yiotis Katsambas, FLIX Product Manager for The Foundry and FLIX in-house developer at Sony Pictures Imageworks, will discuss the revolutionary workflow that enables unparalleled creative collaboration between directors, editors, cinematographers, storyboarders and preview artists. David Volker, creative director of Moonbot Interactive, will talk about games as a medium.

Chief Creative Director and Senior Special Effects Supervisor at Industrial Light & Magic, John Knoll, will kick off the VIEW Conference on October 15 with a speech in which he will deconstruct the visual effects of Guillermo del Toro’s “Pacific Rim” produced by Warner. Bros. Other speakers will focus on visual effects in live action films, including ILM’s Roger Guyett (“Star Trek Into Darkness”), Christopher Townsend (“Iron Man 3”), Image Engine’s Peter Muyzers (“Elysium”), Max Solomondi Framestore (“Gravity”), Henrik Fett of Look! Effects (the making of “Warm Bodies”), Troy Saliba of Sony Pictures Imageworks (“The Great and Powerful Oz”), and Marco Carboni of MPC (“World War Z”).

Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn from Sony Pictures Animation, directors of “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2”, will hold the closing keynote and offer a workshop on creating the extravagant “foodimal” (half food, half animals) of their film. Other guests who will entertain the participants by talking about the making of animated films will be the supervisor technical director of Pixar Christopher Burrows, who helped in the creation of the backgrounds of the short film “Blue Umbrella”, and Sandra Karpman who will propose “The secrets of camera movements according to Pixar. “Bruno Chauffard will present the making of” Despicable Me 2 “, screenwriter and director Stephan Franck his animated special” The Smurfs: The Legend of Smurfy Hollow “, director Peter Chanthanakone will explain to participants how to accelerate the pipeline of 3d animation for independent short films, eMassimo Carrier with a crew of Maga Animation Studios will talk about the workflow in the layout for CGI TV series.
