ZBrush to Character Creator 4 tutorial series

Don’t miss this tutorial series released by Pablo Muñoz Gómez showing how to start sculpting a character in Zbrush, and finally using Character Creator 4 to give the final 3d character pose.

The tutorial series covers every aspect of character creation, from character thumbnails and templates to using Character Creator 4 to create poses without losing any Zbrush sculpting details.

Intro to the ZBrush and CC4 series

This is just a quick introduction to the ZBrush to Character Creator 4 tutorial series where you can get a quick summary of what we are going to tackle in the videos.

Thumbnailing and Sketching the Idea for the Character

This first video of the series covers the concepting and sketching process of the character. I’m going to show you a way to generate quick variations and explore ideas with silhouettes.

Sketching in 3D and Setting Up the Volumes in ZBrush

In this video, we’ll take the 2D sketch and begin the process of setting it up in ZBrush. The key is to focus on volumes and large forms before trying to define any details, you should be able to read the full character well with a very low polygon count.

Polishing the Sketch and Cleaning the Topology

After the blocking and initial 3D setup are completed, we can move into the sculpting and polishing of the volumes in ZBrush. I’m also going to cover a simple way of adding complexity to the objects while keeping a clean base topology.

Rigging the Character with CC4 ‘AccuRig’

In this video, we’ll take our character mesh from ZBrush and bring it into CC4 using the GoZ plugin to start the rigging process using the AccuRig tool. I’m going to show you how to quickly setup the skeleton rig and the main features you need to know to get any humanoid character ready for posing with CC4.

Adjusting the Skin Weights and Tweaking the Rig

In this next stage of the process, I’ll show you how to adjust and refine the quick rig generated by AccuRig to take into account things like hard surface objects (like the neckpiece of the character).

Using the CC Pose Manager Plugin

In this final video of the tutorial series, I’m going to cover a great little plugin from the Reallusion guys called the CC Pose Manager plugin that allows you to manage and store multiple proses in ZBrush from CC4.

Wrap-Up: A Summary of the Entire Workflow

To wrap up this tutorial series I’m going to show you a quick summary of the entire workflow without an explanation of the steps covered in previous videos just to give you an example of how easy and quick this process is once you get used to the steps.
